Harvard University Extension School, Master of Liberal Arts (Partially Online)

Even Harvard makes business education accessible and affordable. The Harvard University Extension School offers a Master of Liberal Arts with tracks in general management and finance. And it's partially online (half of the required 12 courses may be completed online).

Now, I know some people consider the Harvard Extension School a "Harvard Light." I don't know much about the debate, but I do know this: Upon graduation, one automatically becomes a member of the Harvard Alumni Association. And that seems pretty legit to me.

Each 4-credit course appears to cost $1800. The total cost for the degree is $21,600.

  1. Harvard University Extension on average only graduates a little over a 100 bachelors (ALBs) and 500 masters (ALMs) per year. That's out of the many thousands that enrolled in one or another HES course at any given time.

The reason for the low graduation number of graduates is that while enrollment in a course is open to the public, admission is not. The courses are quite difficult, more so if - like many Extension students - you're working full time. Most of the confusion or skepticism over the quality of the degrees traces to the school's dual mission of providing open, local, per course access to Harvard while maintaining the rigorous requirements of the degree programs.
